Cycling and Mountain Biking

Abri Apartments in Paihia is a great place to base yourself if you want to do some mountain biking and / or cycling while you are in the area.   If you come without a bike or a car, don't let that deter you as there is a shuttle service as well as bike hire for both options talked about in this Blog. Waitangi Mountain Bike Park is just 5 klms from central Paihia, Abri Apartments, and the Twin Coast Cycle Trail also starts right here in Paihia.

The Waitangi Mountain Bike Park provides the perfect introduction to mountain biking with lots of easy, scenic trails that you can take at your own pace. The Park caters to all levels of ability offering 30 trails of varying difficulty with great flow and features; from introductory downhill riding, jump trails, cross country and beginner trails.  There are plenty of fast, flowing berms, rollers and jumps. Grade 2 and 3 runs are so well built, they’re still fun for more advanced riders. The downhill trails milk the most out of the vertical elevation available providing a lot of fun for a small amount of climbing.  The Park has a wide range of services to meet all your needs from bike rental, bike shop, shuttle service, skills and coach training as well as having a Cafe located on-site.

The Twin Coast Cycle Trail provides a cycle trail network of 87 kms from the stunning Bay of Islands on the East Coast to the tranquil Hokianga Harbour on the West Coast. With 4 sections to the cycle trail, it can be ridden in either direction.  You will enjoy stunning scenery with magnificent views and a fascinating journey through NZ’s earliest Maori & European settlements.  A range of businesses are set up to help you with anything you might need including bike hire, shuttle services, advice, service and repairs, guided tours and places to stay along the way. Check out the Twin Coast Cycle Trail's operator directory to see who best meets your requirements.
